DIETMAR HEINZ 'HENRY' PAUL NOWAK passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital with his loving wife by his side on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

DIETMAR HEINZ 'HENRY' PAUL NOWAK passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital with his loving wife by his side on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

Henry is lovingly remembered by his wife, Chiduko "Fay" (nee Tokuda); his daughter, Cathy Kortt (nee Nowak) (Rick) and their children, Robert and Melissa (Brandon); his son, David (Linda) and their children, Justin Ober (Kim) and Sienna (Graydon); his brother, Fred (deceased) (Phoebe) and their daughter, Kim; his sister, Alice (Kurt) Becker of Germany, as well as many other family members.

Henry was born in Goldap, Germany on January 17, 1938. As a young lad in January 1953, he immigrated to Canada on a ship called "The Beaverbrae" with his parents, brother and sister from Germany. They travelled West by train from St. John, NB to southern Alberta. He worked in the sugar beet fields, logging and construction, Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton, 30 years with Canada Packers and four years with Lilydale before retiring.

Henry was a kind, compassionate man who helped anyone in a predicament. One fond memory is when he helped an entire family with hearing impairment while he was on a family vacation to California from Las Vegas. Their van was broken down on the side of the Interstate and Henry drove them all to their destination in Riverview.

Henry was married for 52 years, raised two wonderful children and helped raise four grandchildren.

Everyone who visited his home was rest assured never to leave hungry. Henry also enjoyed many late night cruises around town.

Family time was extremely important to Henry. He enjoyed family vacations including three trips to Europe, as well as many camping trips to the Okanagan, Oregon Coast and California.

As well as vacations, Henry enjoyed entertaining and partaking in numerous family gatherings celebrating birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, picnics and visits to his children's homes.

He was a vivid storyteller and could reminisce for hours. One special event that will be engrained in the memories of his loved ones came from the hospital just a few days before his passing, when he was telling jokes and stories and had his family laughing to the point of tears. His family will always remember fondly his words of wisdom and advice. One special piece of advice was, "The job is half done, just by starting."

Our family chain is missing an important link, but with our strong faith, we know that one by one we will all be united again.
