NETTIE BANNINK

MRS. NETTIE BANNINK, passed away at the Lethbridge Extendicare on Saturday, December 8th, 2007 at the age of 95 years. Nettie is survived by her children Betty Mae (Gordon) Stewart, Doug (Dona) Bannink and Donald (Marilyn) Bannink; sons-in-law Andy (Louise) Veres and Gene Keller; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Nettie was predeceased by her husband Everett Bannink, daughter Jean Veres and Linda Keller, 2 grandchildren Judy Veres and Debbie Bannink, her parents and her siblings Inga (Mifflin), Albert, Herman, Teddy, Anton, Annie and Oscar Anderson. Nettie was born on February 6, 1912 in Lethbridge, one of nine children born to Walter and Annie Anderson. She received her education at Finley School until she was needed to work on her family’s threshing crew cook-car at age 14. Throughout her life, Nettie would be known for her generous spirit, sense of humor, work ethic and incredible cooking. In 1932 Nettie married Everett Bannink, a love affair that lasted 56 years. They resided and raised their family on the original homestead of Everett’s family farm outside of Monarch. Nettie and Everett were often the life (and host) of the party and understood what it meant to have fun! Laughter, dance music and the shuffling of cards were familiar sounds at their front door for long-time friends or first-time acquaintances. She was always a loving supporter of family and special occasions. Up until her last year, an event wasn’t complete unless Nettie was present. In 1958 Nettie and good friend Ethel Beveridge founded the Monarch Beavers Club. For nearly 25 years the club would raise funds through the hosting of community events for distribution to local area charities. Nettie was also a long-time member of the Monarch Reformed Church Ladies Aid group. In 1966 Nettie and Everett retired to Cranbrook, B.C. making many new friends throughout the years. Following Everett’s death in 1989, Nettie returned to Lethbridge where she lived until her passing. A Memorial Service will be held at FIRST UNITED CHURCH, 502 - 13th Street North, Lethbridge on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Elizabeth Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nettie’s name to the Lethbridge Extendicare, 1821 - 13th Street North, Lethbridge, AB, T1H 2V4 or a charity of your choice.
