Barwegen, Nellie

August 18, 2024

Date of Service: August 23, 2024

“1 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. 2 It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep. 3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. 5 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.” Psalm 127 ESV

NELLIE BARWEGEN, of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Wiebe Barwegen, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at the age of 80 years.

Besides her loving husband, Wiebe, of 61 years, Nellie is survived by her six children: Sid (Lorraine) Barwegen, Andrew (Glenda) Barwegen, Ken (Maria) Barwegen, Caroline (Mike) Tschritter, Lorraine (Klaas) Deemter, and Heather (Mike) Pischke; as well as 19 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Nellie was born in Nieuwdorp, Netherlands on January 5, 1944, the fourth child of Adriaan and Cornelia De Jager. Many memories could be written, however her final days in the hospital where all could hear her testimony of her Lord and Saviour and her concern for others not having this faith is the one memory we will cherish.

A Viewing will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

A Funeral Service will be held at TRINITY REFORMED CHURCH, 1100 – 40 Avenue North, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Michael Wall officiating.

I had the privelage growing up next door to Nellie. She was a wonderful lady and always treated my whole family with kindness and generosity. She will be missed dearly. Sincerest condolences to you all. God Bless. Crystal (Gamracy)

Our sincere condolences to the Barwegan families. We have many fond memories of Nellie and her family being neighbours and friends of our families. Nellie and her DeJager family were very supportive to Fieke & Cornelia Heins family when immigrants sponsored by Hope Reformed Church. Nellie was extremely kind, loving and caring to Conrad’s family. She will be forever missed!
