March 9, 2003
Our dear son Neal passed away at his home CFB Cold Lake, Sunday, March 9,2003 at the young age of 24 Years.
Neal is survived by his wife Lisa (Guadagno) Cold Lake, AB whom Neal loved with all of his heart. His mother Dorothy (Folk), father Albert, younger brother Shaun, baby sister Kristin-Lynn, all of Lethbridge, grandmother Katherine Folk of Regina, SK. Neal has numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and very dear friends.
Neal was predeceased by his namesake grandfather Anton Phillip Heck, grandmother Agatha Ann Heck of Holdfast/Liberty, SK. Neal loved his grand parents very much. One grandfather he had never known was Genus Folk of Holdfast, SK.
Neal attended elementary school at Assumption Catholic School later finishing at the newly opened St. Martha’s Elementary. Junior High he attended St. Francis and always maintained a place on the Honor role. Neal graduated from Catholic Central High School with Honors. Neal’s dream at a young age was to become a Police Officer so he enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program at the Lethbridge Community College receiving his Diploma. Neal had many friends during his schooling here in Lethbridge. He loved to play basketball in which he played against his brother Shaun for hours a day at the hoop in the old driveway. He was an avid watcher of NBA Basketball on television, later trying some new moves or shots at the hoop. Neal was always the big brother and looked after Shaun at school. In later years Kristin-Lynn was born and Neal spoiled her like he wanted to.
At the age of 12 years Neal joined #11 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron here in Lethbridge. From that moment on being an Air Cadet was his goal and his life, although he didn’t much care for the green colored uniform, he was much happier years later, when they switched back to blue as that was his favorite color. Missing 1 day in 7 years of his Cadet career made it possible to achieve the rank of Warrant Officer 1" Class at the time of his graduation. Neal was an exceptional Cadet, he had taken part in every program that was available to him from flag party, sports, public speaking and in leadership. As a Cadet Neal was awarded in many areas as a junior and a senior. Neal was a recipient of the Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence as well the Lord Strathcona Medal of Military Merit plus the silver pin standard of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Neal chose to be a leader and he has given direction to many Air Cadets who followed. The pride in Neal’s eyes was the drill team, a time in his life that he shared with his brother Shaun and now Kristin-Lynn. As Neal matured into a young man he went r:n to become a Police Officer through the Criminal Justice Program at the L.C.C.
Neal worked part time for the Commissionaires to pay for his tuition fees. Neal loved the Military life style so he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Air Element) in the Military Police Section. One of Neal’s duties was as a D.A.R.E. Officer and loved working and teaching the children in their classrooms. Neal will truly be missed by one and all who knew and crossed paths with him during his short time spent with the ones he loved so deeply. Per Ardua Ad Astra my son.
