MUELLER, EDWARD LORENZ

Sadly, we announce that EDWARD LORENZ MUELLER passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the age of 78. Ed is survived by his daughters Sherry Mueller-Kerber and Lori Brown (Greg Hatfield) as well as his loving grandchildren: Tiara Mueller (Steve), Brandi Kerber, Mike and Tony Brown and his little pixie, great granddaughter, Legacy Leanne Kerber. He is also survived by his brother George (Viola) Mueller and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was happily married over 50 years and was predeceased by his wife and soul mate, Elaine Mueller (nee Oates), his parents Elisabeth (Rheil) and Henry Mueller, and brothers Jake, Reiny, Ernie and Phil, and sister Minnie. Ed was born May 5, 1932 at home near Cupar, SK. On January 8, 1951, Ed joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police doing half of his training in Regina and half in Ottawa. He was always stationed in Alberta, in charge of such detachments as Nanton, Cold Lake, Wainwright and Fairview, moving up to the rank of Sergeant. He met and fell in love with Elaine in Lethbridge and then began a long distance relationship while stationed in Medicine Hat. RCMP members had to be 25 years old to marry, so 3 days after his birthday they were married May 8, 1956 in Calgary, transferred again, settling together in Fort Macleod. After a full family life, raising two daughters, travelling and curling and a 24 year career full of very interesting stories and many good friends, Ed retired from the RCMP and moved to Lethbridge to be close to Elaine’s family. Ed again retired from active work Jan 7, 1977 after several years with Employment Canada as an investigator. Ed will be fondly remembered by many for his role as a Marriage Commissioner, having married over a 1,000 couples all over Southern Alberta and from all parts of the world for over a period of 25 years. It was one of the most enjoyable occupations he ever had. There will be an open house to remember Ed, on Monday, May 2, 2011 from 7-9 pm at his home, 2908-15 Ave South, Lethbridge. If you wish, please make donations to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, Alberta, T2G 3Y6.
