MRS. MARY “LYNN” LAMBERT beloved wife of Mr. Ray Lambert of Lethbridge, AB. passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at the age of 66 years.
Lynn was the loving mother of Ron (Val) Lambert and Bob (Joanne) Lambert both of Lethbridge.
Besides her loving husband and children, Lynn leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her precious grandchildren, Cynthia and Rob Lambert of Lethbridge; her brother, Jim Burroughs (Cheri) of Bakersfield, California; her sisters-in-law, Helene (Peter) Davey of Nanaimo, B.C. and Lucille Maloney of Peachland, B.C. as well as several nieces and nephews.
Lynn was predeceased by her niece, Nancy Jobling; her parents, Kathleen and Robert (Bob) Burroughs; her sister Barbara Jean Ferris; her parents-in-law, Jeanne and Roland Lambert; and her brother-in-law, Joe Maloney; as well as her grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Lynn was fondly remembered for breaking the two-minute silence when she was born in Vulcan, AB. on November 11, 1943. She was raised and educated in Swift Current, Sask. and was an alumni of Swift Current Collegiate Institute, Lethbridge College of Nursing, 1976, and the Grant MacEwan Occupational Health Nursing Certification Program, 1987. Throughout her education, Lynn held several leadership roles and also earned many academic awards.
Lynn met her life partner, Ray, in Swift Current during the summer of 1960 and they were wed three years later in Yellowknife, N.W.T. where their eldest son, Ron, was born in 1965. They moved to Swift Current in 1966, and in 1967 their second son, Bob was born. When the children began school, Lynn chose to pursue her nursing ambitions and attended both the Medicine Hat and the Lethbridge Community Colleges of Nursing, graduating with honours. She began her speciality of Occupational Health Nursing with Catelli, Inc. in Lethbridge and also continued in this profession with A.G.T. (working in both Lethbridge and Medicine Hat) where she achieved her Canadian Occupational Health Nursing Certification. Lynn truly loved both her work and the people she served, and was most fortunate to meet many wonderful and lasting friends throughout her career. Prior to retiring in 2002, Lynn held the position of Employee Health Co-ordinator for the Chinook Health Authority. Lynn was actively involved in various executive positions for both the local and provincial bodies of the Alberta Occupational Health Nursing Association. She was also involved in past participation as a member of the Board of Directors for the M.S. Society.
After retirement, Lynn and Ray pursued their love of travel, and after several trips to Arizona, purchased their own little haven in Yuma, Arizona. During their travels, they both fell in love with Hawaii, and thoroughly enjoyed their tri-continental cruise to Europe.
Among her many interests, Lynn loved to play the piano, having been taught by her mother when she was just a young girl. She and Cynthia spent many happy times together playing their beloved duets. Not only did Lynn play for enjoyment, but she also found her music a great comfort to her during difficult times. Along with her husband, Lynn was a member of the Lethbridge Golf and Country Club, and spent many wonderful hours golfing there with her family and friends. Lynn’s favourite and most meaningful times were those she spent with her family, particularly the time she spent with her grandchildren on their special Monday nights together, and the family gatherings with her sons who revelled in coming up with new and unique “pet names” for her - Perkins, Benjie, Banana, Grasshopper, etc. Lynn was a loving and caring individual who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
