MR. STEWART CHRISTIE, beloved husband of Mrs. Louise Christie of Lethbridge, passed away at home on Friday, January 1, 2010 at the age of 81 years.
Born in Glasgow on April 30, 1928, Stewart was raised and educated in Falkirk, Scotland. After serving in the British Army, he was trained as a registered nurse and emigrated to Canada in 1954. One of his greatest adventures was his first trip across Canada, trying to decide where to settle.
He married Louise on February 15, 1958, and they chose to live in Alberta. Stewart earned a degree from the University of Saskatchewan and worked as a hospital administrator in Claresholm and then as a financial planner in Coaldale and Lethbridge. Following retirement, it gave Stewart great joy to volunteer his time at many venues throughout southern Alberta. He held active roles in various community organizations and was a Master Mason and a Shriner. Time spent traveling often centered around visiting friends and family around the world. But Stewart’s true avocation in life was to share his musical talent and good humour as often as he could. Over the past fifty years, he celebrated his Scottish heritage by entertaining and “addressing the haggis” at countless Robbie Burns suppers. Most recently he enjoyed several years leading the LSCO Golden Mile Singers.
He will be missed by his loving wife Louise, son Ian (Tracey), daughter Heather (Tim), five granddaughters Shaylene and Richelle Christie, Erin, Emily and Christy Gore-Hickman, and extended family in Canada, Scotland and Australia.
A Memorial Service will be held at MCKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 - 15 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB., on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Trevor Potter officiating. A private family inurnment will be held prior to the service at Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Stewart’s family would be pleased if anyone wishing to remember him with a memorial donation would consider the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization, 500 - 11 Street South, Lethbridge, AB. T1J 4G7.
