MARIE HENRIETTE "MARIETTE" MOROZ passed away peacefully at St Michael's Health Centre - Palliative Care Unit on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the age of 86, knowing she was loved.
Mariette was predeceased by her loving husband Marian "Mario" and is survived by her three sons: Randy (Sue) Moroz of Lethbridge, Terry (Darlene) Moroz of Calgary and Jeff (Chris) Moroz of Lethbridge; her grandchildren: Mitchell (Mary) Moroz, Amanda (Kelly) Siemens, Spencer (Lana) Moroz, Joshua Moroz and Maggie (Greg) Hemsing and her great-grandchildren Nikolai and Vanessa Moroz, Evan and Victoria Siemens and Haylee and Jamie Moroz. She is also survived by her sisters Joan Rowell and Liz (George) Sim and brothers Leonard "Daan" Prins, Bud (Isabelle) Lemmens, Alex (Suzanne) Lemmens and Derek (Laura) Lemmens and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mariette was born in Pengalengan, Indonesia on November 4, 1933. As a teenager, Mariette and her family were placed in an internment camp during the Second World War for three years. After the war, the family was repatriated to Holland for a short time then immigrated to Canada in 1952 where they resided in Montreal for one year. The family then decided to head west to Lethbridge and worked sugar beets before Mariette took a job in the kitchen at the Galt Hospital.
Mariette met Mario in Lethbridge where they were married in 1953 and raised their three sons. In 1964, Mariette began driving school bus for Enerson Motor's throughout the County of Lethbridge. In 1972, she began driving school bus in the City of Lethbridge and in October 1974, she became the first woman city transit bus driver west of Manitoba to British Columbia. Mariette retired from the transit in 1997 but continued to drive bus for the Lethbridge Seniors Centre well into her 70's.
Mariette loved having family dinners, driving her motorcycle (later adding a sidecar for the grandkids), playing cards and games with her friends and sneaking out to the casino. Mariette always believed in living life to the fullest and her sons and grandchildren all got to experience things that many others didn't but made sure if friends were around they were always more than welcome to join them.
Anyone that met her would never forget her; she had a spark for life that never dwindled.
Mariette gave us all a sense of family, humility and to always help out those that may need help no matter who they are. She will be missed but she always said, even as her health failed "she lived a good, full life".
Special thanks to the staff at Black Rock Terrace and St. Michael's Health Centre - Palliative Care Unit.
A Celebration of Mariette's Life will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. with Patrick Siedlecki officiating. The service may be viewed by live-stream under Mariette's obituary on the Cornerstone website.

Mariette was one of our favorite friends Mom's. We loved coming to your place Jeff, as teenagers knowing your Mom would be there. She will be missed ??

If there is anything we can do to help you get through your loss please do not hesitate to give me a call. Pat and Fred Baskerville

Sorry for the loss of your mother, She was a great lady and will be missed
Hi Jeff and Chris and family. I was sad to see your mom has passed away. She really was a delightful lady. I remember her well. Always cheerful and an open honest person. She was a go getter. I'll be thinking if you all as you mourn her passing.
It was such a pleasure to meet you Mariette one day when you dropped by at Lethbridge Transit in about 2010. I took a picture of you standing by one of the many buses you drove back in the day, Unit 101. You loved driving and even coming back for a short visit that day, made you want to get back behind the wheel and take that bus for a good spin! You were so proud of the fact that you were the very first female west of Winnipeg to drive a Transit bus, and in fact, the Lethbridge Herald tells that very story! Although today there are many more gadgets in our buses to deal with, you would still wave whenever you saw that "wheel on the bus go round and round"! Sincerely, Bill Chapman - Lethbridge Transit
My sister, Mariette, a special person - inspiring all who knew her, always cheerful and kind, full of energy and enthusiasm. We will all miss her, especially those who have known her all of our lives, she made us better just by being there. My thoughts and prayers are with her extended family, friends and community. Gone but never forgotten!
I will remember you for a long time. I so enjoyed our chats, shared laughs and the odd tear. Rest in eternal Peace. You will be missed and loved for a long time.
Randy, Terry, Jeff, and families; so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I'll always remember Mrs. Morrow's up-beat and jovial personality. She knew me all my life, as for many years she lived next door to my Gramma and Grampa Valer. When I bought my motorcycle and had to break the news to my parents, I used her as an example. I'll be forever grateful for all the memories I have of her.
Beautiful ,Wonderful & Kind Lady ... Always made me laugh Full of hugs Forever in our hearts?
Our deepest sympathy for the Moroz family and we wish you all the strength in the coming weeks. Love Corrie and John
