Miller, Ronald Leroy

It is with sadness that we announce that our dad, RONALD LEROY MILLER, beloved husband of Helen, passed away surrounded by family, in the St. Michael's Health Centre Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at the age of 79 years following a courageous battle with cancer.

Dad was born June 11, 1936 in Calgary to Howard and Vivian Miller. They grew as a family in Calgary and it was here that Dad met Mom in 8th grade. They married soon after high school and have been together ever since. Throughout this time, they were blessed with five children and 12 grandchildren. Growing up, Mom and Dad took us on annual camping trips to Shuswap Lake; an excursion we always looked forward to and remember fondly. We also loved the endless hours spent around the player piano, singing and dancing as a family. In the 70's when the Sears store opened in Lethbridge, our family moved here and Dad managed the Auto Centre. After 5 years, they returned to Calgary where he continued his career with Sears and in the insurance business until his retirement. Mom and Dad travelled extensively and cherished their adventures to Hawaii, Europe and the US, often on cruises and by car. Dad was an avid golfer and enjoyed nothing more than playing the game with his father, children and grandchildren, especially when he could show them his putting skill on the greens. As for cards, no matter who showed up to the crib board, they knew to have their quarters or loonies ready. Dad and Mom recently returned to Lethbridge to be closer to family when Mom's struggle with Alzheimer's progressed.

Dad is survived by the love of his life, Helen and his children; Brian (Sharon) Miller of Lethbridge, Kim (Tony) Mrak of Lethbridge, Kevin (Darlene) Miller of Calgary, Robin Miller (Shelly) of Kelowna, B.C., Cory Miller (Maryann) of Lethbridge, as well as his grandchildren; Tyler (Michelle), Joel, Trevor (Monica), Amber (Sam), Brendan, Chad, Natasha, Jennifer, Cody, Rylie, Jordyn, and Jenna (Andrew). He is also survived by his sister Mavis (Rev. Brown) Milne of Calgary, sister-in-law Jean (Charlie) Wooten of Osoyoos, B.C. as well as a niece and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents Howard and Vivian Miller and parents- in-law Margaret Sasso and Harry Mills.
A Memorial Service will be held in Calgary at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Ron's name may be made directly to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Michael's Health Centre, 1400 9th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 4V5, S.T.A.R.S., 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, AB, T2E 8M7, or a charity of your choice.
