Mick, Robert "Lorne"

ROBERT "LORNE" MICK was born July 30th, 1933 in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan to parents Robert and Dorothy Mick (née Hanstead). When Lorne and his sisters, Sharon and Marjorie, were still in their youth, the family relocated to Edmonton. There, Lorne graduated from University High School before doing a brief stint with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a young man.

When Lorne started a family with his beloved wife, Damarice "Carolyn" Mick (née Heath), they settled in Calgary, where the family grew and flourished. For more than two decades, Lorne worked as the Cash and Banking Manager for Mobil Oil, all the while staying active in his community with volunteer work, from his time on the Grand Stand Committee with the Calgary Stampede to his active involvement on many political campaigns both provincial and federal.

In the 1970s, the family decided to take a proud leap into pig farming. In partnership with Lorne's brother in-law, Lorne and Carolyn built a new life just outside of Innisfail. Despite the difficulties inherent in this lifestyle change, Lorne had always been a hard-working man, so he faced the challenge head-on with fervour and enthusiasm. In the 1980s, Lorne once again leapt at an exciting opportunity when he was appointed by the provincial government to take up a position as the CEO of the Alberta Special Waste Management Corporation.

When Lorne took this new job, his daughter Janeal stepped in as Production Supervisor of the hog farm, which she managed into the 1990s with the help and support of Lorne's other children, Heather, Casey, and Bob. After retiring from farming, Carolyn and Lorne relocated into Innisfail proper, where he spent many hours spoiling his canine companions and strolling by the Red Deer River.

Lorne peacefully passed away surrounded by family on June 19th, 2018, in Lethbridge. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, beloved children Bob, Janeal and Casey, much adored granddaughter Erin, as well as his sister Sharon, and his joyful dog Saphie. He is predeceased by his cherished daughter Heather, his sister Marjorie, and his parents Robert and Dorothy, as well as numerous, intensely loved family pets. He will be deeply missed and forever loved, always in our hearts and memories. May we meet again.
