Mike was born in Wayne, AB. On June 16, 1931 and later moved to Coleman where he spent his early youth. At age 15 he travelled north to work in Dawson City, Yukon and began working on a gold dredge , he was also the camp cook. He went to work in the coalmine and ran a Cat on a big strip mine. He then moved on to Banff, AB., working in the Banff Springs Hotel and as an apprentice baker. At this point in his life, the rodeo bug took hold and was where he met his wife of 54 years.

He decided to become an auctioneer and open a western store in Lethbridge, AB. As fate would have it the store was extensively damaged by fire, sending him in the direction of Fort St. John where he became a serious auctioneer which became his love and lifelong passion. Due to climate and the longing to try new things, he moved to Kamloops where he raised his four children and became a Hall of Fame auctioneer.

In his later years, he retired to pursue his dream of restoring collectable cars, which have been purchased by buyers all over the world.

Mike moved back to his roots in the last part of his life and enjoyed old friends and especially his younger brother.
