CORNELIUS “COR” MENT, beloved partner of Terry Moses for 25 years, of Coalhurst, passed away at home on Saturday January 21, 2012 at the age of 72 years. He is survived by his twin sister Josephine (Bill) Bier, brothers Dirk Ment and Layne (Celeste) Ment, and Johnny (Betty) Ment. He was predeceased by his parents Jan and Hilda Ment, sister Betty (Herman) Woelders, and great nephew William Bier. Cor was born on November 4, 1939 in Rotterdam Holland. He immigrated to Canada with his family in May 1956 arriving in Lethbridge. Cor began his working career at age 15, involving many trades, hoeing sugar beets, working in lumber mills and farming, as well as many years in retail. In 1978, Cor graduated from the Alberta Beauty School and became an owner/operator of his own salons. Since that time Cor has remained in the hair and beauty industry, giving his last professional haircut on December 23, 2011. One of Cor’s greatest accomplishments in life was the many lifelong clients that became lifelong friends. Cor not only had a strong bond with people but with horses also. He was a well known breeder of Appaloosa horses and his passion for riding made him a true horseman. Cor was one of the founding members of the Hilltoppers Gymkhana Club, The Golden Age Equestrian Club & Southern Alberta Appaloosa Club. Many hours of volunteering were spent with the Norbridge Music Makers and holding various executive positions in the Coalhurst Community - the last being Secretary Treasurer of 55+ Club, a position he had until his passing. Cor was not only a mentor to his friends and family but also to many special nieces and nephews who will carry on his legacy. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the COALHURST COMMUNITY CENTRE, 1217-20 Avenue, Coalhurst, AB on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. with Cliff Brown, officiating.
