JOSEPHINE MEILI, beloved wife of Robert, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, June 3, 2011 at St. Michael’s Palliative Care, at the age of 82 years.
Josie was born on September 5, 1928 in Winnipeg, MB, daughter of John and Nellie Yuzwa. The youngest of six children, she was raised on the family farm in Broad Valley, and completed her schooling in Winnipeg. She worked at D.V.A. prior to meeting Robert at a dance in Banff. They married in Winnipeg in 1955 and then moved to Canmore where they were blessed with two children. Lethbridge has been home since 1958. A Brownie Leader, Zeller’s employee, gifted sewer, knitter, and hand crafter. Jo was a strong independent soul who loved her family above all else.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her children Valerie (Neville) Townsend of Cowichan Bay, B.C. and Ed (Christine) Meili of Auckland, N.Z.; cherished grandsons Robert and Johnathan, step-grandchildren Angela and Mark McGill also of Auckland, N.Z. and extended family in Manitoba, Canmore, Calgary, Ontario, the U.S. and Switzerland.
Sincere thanks are extended to the ambulance attendants, all the staff at the Regional Hospital and Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate and excellent care.
A Private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
