MAYBERRY, MILDRED JOYCE

MILDRED “MILLIE” MAYBERRY died peacefully, Sunday, July 18, 2010, surrounded by her family.

Born Mildred Joyce Shaw March 15, 1933 in Thessalon, ON, the seventh of eight children. Following High School in Burlingon, she graduated from Queen’s University and taught school in New Liskeard, ON.

Millie married Bill in 1954 and moved to Calgary where she did social work. In subsequent moves, she was either a teacher or a social worker and always a social activist; working for peace, good government and justice for all. Opportunities were provided in Valleyview, AB, Kingston, Jamaica, Labrador City and Cornerbrook, NFLD, Sparwood, BC and Fort Macleod, AB.

Predeceased by her parents Clarence and Edith Shaw; sisters Marion and Beth; brother Dude. Survived by her loving and devoted husband Bill; sons Peter (Cher) and Tim (Cheryl) Mayberry; daughter Nancy (Kevin) O’Sullivan; grandchildren Heather, Andrew, Michael, CJ, Justin, Meaghan and Joe and great-granddaughter Olivia; brothers George (Pat), Don (Donna) and Jim (Dorothy) Shaw; sister Claire Lahie and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Yamashita, and the staff at Edith Cavell and unit 5B at the Chinook Regional Hospital.

A Visitation will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, from 7:00-8:00 P.M.

A Celebration of Millie’s life will be held at MCKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 - 15 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB., on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Trevor Potter officiating.

Millie’s wish for memorials or donations to go to the United Church of Canada Missions and Service Fund c/o McKillop United Church.
