Matthew John Visser was born to parents Robert John Visser and Doreen Anne Sullivan on February 4th, 1976, in Lethbridge Alberta.
From day one Matt was on the run, literally, off exploring. Dwayne joined our family on May 24, 1977. Now Matt had someone to take with him on his adventures, we would go camping and explore places during the summer months when possible. We joined many other families at Grandpa Rense and Grandma Nellie’s house, especially when they lived down in the river bottom. Fun times and memories were made with cousins, aunts and uncles.
Matt attended School, elementary through to grade 12 in Raymond, Alberta. He loved doing sports: dirt biking, snowmobiling, baseball, soccer, hockey, and even tried pare-a-gliding. Rob was Matt’s coach for some of his hockey seasons. He had a love for people, no matter who they were or their age. Our home was always alive with friends.
He went to work for a season up in Lake Louise at a gift store. There he was learning how to speak some Japanese so he could interact with the tourist. He loved meeting new people and got good at selling things to anyone including my salsa I sent up for him to eat. He went to work with his dad at “Big Rock Landscaping”, until the death of his dad.
During this time Matt married Ricki Campbell on April 4th, 1998, Raymond Alberta. They had a son Ethan Byran Visser (Campbell). They were later divorced. He then met Jackie Berger and knew that he found the women he wanted to share the rest of his life with and make new adventures with. They were married on August 29, 2003, in Magrath. They were joined by son Brayden John and then daughter Annabell Lorraine, to make the family complete. Now they were off making memories exploring places, camping, and fishing. The love of sports Matt had, he passed onto Brayden and Anna through riding dirt bikes, soccer and Hockey. The love and compassion Matt had for others led him to form a “Summer Games” team when he saw the ones, including Brayden who had the love and passion for soccer, but did not make the other teams. Matt wanted them to have the experience of competing at that level.
After his dad’s death, he started his own landscaping business, called “Visser Landscaping”. It was hard work, but got great satisfaction out of the finished project.
He often did extra side jobs for those who could not afford or not physically able do it for themselves, often at a lower cost or for nothing. When his dad died, he inherited his 1968 Coronet car. He started showing the Coronet in the “Show and Shine “shows. He loved going to car shows every weekend and would plan it weeks in advance to be able to have that day off. He joined the “Raymond Road Aces” club. They had their own t-shirts made up and many future events planned for this year. If you have a memory or story about Matt that you are willing to share, we would greatly appreciate it.
There will be no funeral but a “Celebration of Life” get-together is planned for April 19th, 2025 at the Ag-Building in Raymond from 3:00 pm. to closing. The address is: 98 East Park Street. Raymond.
A special thanks to his friend Darcy Erickson for all he did for Matt.
