James Andrew Matisz, beloved husband of Beverly, of Coaldale passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the age of 66 years with his loving family at his side. He is the loving father of Barbara (Kim) of Bow Island, Michael (Elizabeth) of Lethbridge, Roberta (Mark) of Coaldale; three grandchildren, Mikayla, Sean, and Kierra. He is also survived by three brothers, Don (Alice), Bob (Sandy), and Doug (Ava), and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many beloved friends. He was predeceased by his father, Andrew, and his mother, Anne. Jim was born on July 26, 1944 in Lethbridge, AB. He was the oldest of four boys to Anne and Andrew Matisz. From an early age, he had a passion for music and mastered many instruments. He played in his high school band, and was a member of the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra when it was first formed. In 1967, Jim married Beverly Thielen and they were blessed with three beautiful children. They resided in Lethbridge, and then made their home in Coaldale in 1981. Jim loved people and had a heart to serve them, which made sales a natural career for him as a life insurance broker. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family more than anything. Camping and fishing were some of his favorite pastimes they shared. Jim was a devoted Christian who served his Lord in many areas of ministry, especially music. He is now reaping his rewards. We as a family feel a great loss, but rejoice knowing we will be with him again in Heaven. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” A time for family and friends to pay their respects will take place at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from 7:00 - 8:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at VICTORY CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP, (1 mile east of Lethbridge on Highway 3) on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Dick DeWeert officiating.
