MARY ISABELLA MACLEAN passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 91.
Mary was born on June 30, 1918 in the sandstone house on the family farm near Monarch, AB. During the Second World War, Mary was employed by the R.C.A.F. as a parachute packer at Pearce, High River and Edmonton. In 1958 she moved to Lethbridge, and worked in several pharmacies including: the El Rancho, Draffins, and finally Skelton’s for twenty years. Mary was very dedicated to her church, St. Andrews, where she served for many years as an elder, a member of the Session, Women’s Federation, the Ruby Walker group, as well as helped organize the annual rummage sale, pancake supper and put many hours into the St. AndrewâEUR(TM)s Church history book. She also volunteered in the area of pastoral care and enjoyed being a greeter on Sunday mornings. She was especially friendly and welcoming to anyone new in the church and community. In 2001 Mary moved to the Garden View Lodge and resigned from her service duties in the church, but still enjoyed attending the Senior’s luncheons and the Ladies Groups. Mary was a very social person and enjoyed going out for lunch or supper with her many dear friends. She loved going to the farm and was affectionately known to all the relatives as “Auntie Mary” or “Sis”. Mary was known as a very warm and generous person, giving fully from her heart.
Mary is survived by her four nieces and their families: Catherine & Gordon McSween, Erin & Kelsey; Isabelle & John Plomp, Allissa, Kailie & Raegan; Mary Anne & Doug Stanko, April, Lindsay & Heather; Evelyn & Gary Bolink, Sarah, John & Justin.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Duncan and Catherine MacLean, infant sister Catherine, brothers Johnny & Duncan, and sister-in-law Rosemarie.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 from 7:00-8:00 P.M.
Graveside services will be held at the GRANUM CEMETERY on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 1:00 P.M.
A Memorial Service will be held at ST. ANDREW’S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1818 - 5th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. with Reverend Hector Rose officiating.
