It is with extreme sorrow we are announcing the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. Mary, beloved wife of the late Issac Funk, passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre on Sunday, February 22, 2009. Mary is survived by her daughters, Karen Pierson, Maxine (Jesse) Brooks and son Warren (Brenda) Funk all of Lethbridge, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by Ike, her loving husband of 49 years; infant daughter Wanda; son Donovan; grandson Jesse; her parents Aron and Anne Neustaeter, her brother John; and her son in law, Brian Pierson. Mary was born Sept 19, 1926 in Winkler, Manitoba. On April 3, 1949 she married Isaac ‘Ike’ Funk. Together they made their home in Swift Current, later moving to Lethbridge in 1950. There they started our family in 1952. Mary worked various jobs over the years, she worked at Lethbridge Municipal Hospital and then started working at Simpson Sears for 25 years where many friendships were made. Through the years she enjoyed her valued friendships and lunch dates with the Sears girls. Mom loved the outdoors, camping was one of her most enjoyable activities. Gardening was also a big passion of moms, there were always plenty of flowers around the house in the summer and when mom and dad moved to their condo mom was the first to volunteer to take care of the flower garden. Mom loved to knit, she would make afghans for all the kids and would spend countless hours donating her time at Blankets For Canada. Mary was immensely proud of all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the heart of the family and her passing leaves a huge void. We were all truly blessed by her presence in our lives and will cherish our memories of her forever. The family would like to thank her long time family physician, Dr. Billet for the excellent care and dedication to her well being. And also the doctors and staff at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre for their excellent care in her last days. A Funeral Service will be held at UNIVERSITY DRIVE ALLIANCE CHURCH, 55 Columbia Blvd. West, on Friday February 27, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Scott Dixon officiating. Interment to follow at Archmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society # 402, 740 - 4 Ave South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0N9 or St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre 1400 - 9th Ave South Lethbridge. AB T1J 4V5.
