Maria Girardi, beloved wife of the late Severino Girardi, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on February 26, 2009 at 86 years of age. She leaves to mourn her loving sons Ivano of Edmonton and Elio (Myrna) of Lethbridge, and grandchildren Arryl, Samantha and David. She is also survived by her brother Giorgio (Ines) Sartorel, her sister Lucia Verardo, and sister-in-law Gina Sartorel all of Italy, and her sister-in-law Santina Sartorel of Cranbrook, B.C. She is also survived by Severino’s sister Maria (Grazioso) Roman of Toronto, and by his sister Rosina Girardi, brother Alessandro (Gina) Girardi , and sister-in-law Liliana Girardi all of Italy, as well nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and Italy. In addition to her husband Severino, Maria was predeceased by her parents, Giovanni and Maria Sartorel, brothers Giordano, Primo and Bruno Sartorel, sister-in-law Luigia, and brothers-in-law Angelo Girardi and Lorenzo Pighin. Maria and her son Ivano immigrated to Canada in 1952 to join her husband Severino, who had arrived a year earlier. They settled in Michele, B.C. where son Elio was born. She had very fond memories of her time there. The family moved to Lethbridge in 1961, where she enjoyed preparing Sunday dinners and sharing her zest for life with family and friends. After a lifetime of caring for others, Maria was grateful for the care she received from the kind people at St. Michael’s Health Centre, where she resided for the past year. A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 - 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 10:30 A.M., with Reverend Raul Hernadez, Celebrant. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
