After a courageous battle with Alzheimer's, it is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of MARGARET (GRETA) DUNLOP on March 29th, 2014.
Greta was born February 17th, 1933 in Stirling, Scotland. In 1957, Greta left the bonnie banks of Scotland with her husband Forrest and sailed to the wild west of Canada for a better life. Over many years of hard work on the farm on Sunnyside Road, working as an LPN in Lethbridge and raising six children, they created the life they had envisioned. In retirement Greta and Forrest loved to winter in Hawaii and spend the summers in the RV, often with a grandchild in tow. Greta was known for her amazing butter tarts and shortbread cookies. She was especially gifted at knitting and always provided outfits for each of her grandchildren as they arrived.
Greta will be sadly missed by Forrest, her husband of 62 years, as well as her 6 children; Elaine, Sharon, Debra, Pat, Karen and Roger, her 11 grandchildren; Michael, Lisa, Riley, Austen, Halsey, Ethan, Luke, Liam, Dylan, Logan and Brett and her 3 great grand-children; Bailey, Kaitlyn and Landon.
In Scotland, Greta leaves behind her older brother Ian, her younger sisters Ann, Hilda and Dorothy, her sister-in-law Moira (Alistar) and numerous other families.
Lastly, she leaves Duke, their beloved dog of 19 years.
To quote the Scottish poet Thomas Campbell, "To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die".
Mum, may you rest peacefully.
Out of respect for Greta's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
