MANIROD RICHTER

With great sadness, the family of Manirod Richter announces his passing on June 10, 2009 at St. Michaels Health Centre. Manirod is survived by his loving wife and sweetheart of almost 59 years Vickie, 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Manirod was born in Fox Valley, Sask. on March 7, 1929 to Lawrence and Barbara Richter, the 9th of 15 children. Dad worked hard all of his life, beginning as a young teenager. In 1948 Manirod moved to Taber where he & Vickie met, they were married on June 20, 1950. They lived in Taber for several years then Medicine Hat & settled in Bow Island. In Bow Island he worked for the County of Forty Mile and then the town of Bow Island. In 1973, Manirod accepted the Foreman position for the Town of Picture Butte where he worked for 21 years before retiring in 1994. Retirement was a wonderful time, full of travel with Vickie, they enjoyed many trips to the ‘Dakotas, and numerous fishing and camping trips with friends and family. Manirod was the president of the Picture Butte Happy Old-timers Seniors for 9 years and was a proud member of the Germans from Russia club. In 2000, Manirod made a long planned trip with his brother Mike to Germany were he was able to meet a number of cousins for the first time; it was a trip he thoroughly enjoyed. Besides his loving wife Vickie, Manirod will be dearly missed by his children: Dianna Garrecht, Charlotte Berge, Donna Richter, Larry (Deb) Richter, and Sherry (Keith) Brown. His grandchildren: Jody Berge, Melanie (Kelly) Koch, Lindsay (Kasper) Muller, Courtney Garrecht, Karissa Haskill, Nick (Holly) Haskill, Tyler (Victoria) Haskill, Theran (Lindsay) Landry, Colin (Erin) Richter, Craig Richter, Keenan Brown, and Austin Brown. And his great grandchildren: Logan, Kason, Karli, Tylen, Macie, and Micah. Manirod is also survived by 3 sisters: Katie Penner, Mary Yewchuk, Rose (Ed) Perry, 2 brothers: Frank (Bobbie) Richter, & Mike (Bernice) Richter, sisters/brother in law Betty & Les Andrus, Florence Miller, Pauline Miller, Florence Richter, Grace Richter, and Pat Richter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Manirod was predeceased by his parents, 9 brothers & sisters, granddaughter Kelsey Brown, and son in law Harvey Garrecht. Dad loved to tease & had nicknames for all of his grandkids as well as numerous nieces & nephews. For the past 2 years, Dad has been living at St. Mikes and won the hearts of many of the staff. The family is very thankful for the loving compassionate care the staff at St. Mikes showed to our dear dad. We will miss you dad and ‘Guess What Grampa?’ Prayers will be held at Our Lady Of The Assumption Catholic Church, 2405 - 12 Ave South, Lethbridge on Friday June 12 at 7:00 P.M., viewing at 6:30 P.M.. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday June 13, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady Of The Assumption Catholic Church, Reverend Raul Hernandez Celebrant. A reception to follow at Our Lady Of The Assumption Catholic Church Hall. Private family interment at the Taber Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Alzheimer Society of Lethbridge, #162, 200-4th Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 4C9 or Canadian Cancer Society, 317 - 10th Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 2M7.
