MADGE, FRANK

FRANK MADGE, husband of Verna, of Milk River, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on May 25, 2012, at 93 years of age. He is survived by his children: Larry (Chris) Madge of Milk River, Judy Madge of Calgary, and Marion Madge (O’Brien Tarnasky) of Elkwater; his grandchildren: Lloyd (Erin) Madge, Linda (Stacey) Hunt, Carol (James) Burr, Dale Madge and Mark Madge (Tessa); his great-grandchildren: Janessa and Jeremy Burr, Evan and Bryce Hunt, Liam and Lauren Madge.
He is also survived by his sisters Beth (Bob) Hummel and Grace Madge, his brother, Paul Madge, his sisters-in-law, Liona Graham, Irene (Bill) Juravel, Geneva (Bill) Powell, and Ada (Erick) Nielsen, brother-in-law, Lorn (Evelyn) Jenks, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Helen, and sisters-in-law, Sybil, Janora, and Donna. Frank was the eldest of five children born to Martin and Edna Madge in Milk River. He met Verna in the 1940’s and they were married in the Madge family cottage in Waterton. They settled down to life on the farm, initially concentrating on running a sheep operation, and moved into cattle in the 1960’s. Dad enjoyed travelling and trying new foods in restaurants as he went. He also enjoyed fishing in Waterton, picking berries as he walked the paths to the lakes. He was a member of the gun club and enjoyed shooting traps. Pheasant hunting was a favorite pastime in the fall. Dad was also an active member of the ELKS and a 4-H Leader for more than ten years. Mom and Dad moved into Milk River in the 1980’s and enjoyed becoming part of a larger community. Since Mom passed Dad welcomed many visitors to the house, entertaining them with stories and poems from the past. Many people used him as a source for details on local history and events. He had a keen mind and a remarkable memory right to the end.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were special to him and he always looked forward to their visits. Friends and relatives will miss his good humor and oft-repeated jokes.
In keeping with Frank’s wishes, there will be no service. A family gathering for the interment of his and Verna’s ashes will follow at a future date.
