THE HONOURABLE LAWRENCE DAVID MACLEAN, Q.C. June 30, 1927 - April 18, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of LAWRENCE DAVID MACLEAN, beloved husband of Judith (Kirk) MacLean and loving father to Carol Cruickshank (David), Peter, Patrick (Rosie), Sue MacLean and Kathryn Roberts (Nathan) and grandfather to; Don, Laura, Bob Emily, Ian, Davis, Katie, Oscar, Sam and Charlie. He is survived by his sister, Elinor Lucas and predeceased by parents Annie and Neil MacLean and sisters Elaine Stefanelli and Alyce LeGrandeur.

L.D. was born and raised in Pincher Creek, Alberta and graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Laws in 1952. He practiced law in Lethbridge until his appointment to the Supreme Court of Alberta, Trial Division in 1978. When he retired from the Bench at 75 he continued his legal career as senior counsel for Davidson & Williams LLP. As a mentor to many, he gave freely of his time and knowledge. His passion for the law was evident in his generous approach to the profession.

Laurie spent many happy years working and playing in Waterton where his family owned and operated the dance pavilion. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many camping and fishing trips with friends and family. His zest for living and ascerbic wit attracted people of all ages. This charismatic man touched many lives and will be missed by all.

A Celebration of Laurie’s life will be held at the COAST LETHBRIDGE HOTEL & CONFERENCE CENTRE, 526 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 2:00 P.M.
