DONALD MACDIARMID, beloved spouse and father, passed away peacefully at home in Lethbridge on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at the age of 69 years.
Don lived a life as unique as him. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland on May 16, 1950. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Malcolm (Callum) and Margaret (Peggy) MacDiarmid. Don is survived by his spouse, Laura; Don and Margaret's daughter, Aileen (Nolan); and sister, Anne (Euan) as well as his many wonderful family members back in Scotland.
Don grew up in Stornaway and Glasgow, and in 1980 decided to leave Scotland and immigrate to Canada. Working in the millwright industry for 30 plus years, he was a very gifted and respected tradesman. Don made many close friendships over those years which he always held close to his heart.
In 1987, Don was blessed with the love of his life, his daughter. This past summer Don was on top of the world to watch Aileen and Nolan get married and to include a son-in-law into the family.
Laura, Aileen and Nolan would like to thank a few people starting with the friends that came to visit on a regular basis, especially for Jeopardy time. Please know how much sharing a dram (or three) meant to him, even when a donnybrook ensued.
To the people that dropped off food, clootie dumpling, biscuits, and spirits please know it was much appreciated. To the Varsteel staff where he spent so much of his time, thank you all. To his special fishing friends, you provided him a lot of tall tales, happy times and great memories.
the people that sent texts and emails to Don recently, please know that while he may not have answered you, they brought a smile to his face and meant a lot to him.
Don loved his trips to Glasgow and Lewis (Stornaway) and valued his family so very much. The stories and memories he had were ones that he would tell fondly.. over and over and over.
Flowers are greatly declined. Be kind to one another.
Unfortunately, at this time, we will not be able to hold a service that would do his life justice.
The next time you have a wee dram please raise a glass.
