LYDIA DOENZ

LYDIA JEAN DOENZ, passed away at the Park Meadow’s Village in Lethbridge on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the age of 94 years. She is survived by her sister Annie Hughson and sister-in-law Helen Doenz of Pemmican Lodge, Lethbridge. Thirteen nieces and nephews and their families were her precious ‘children’. Cousins Elby, Herb, Evalina and Leo are her surviving cousins, along with many other extended family. Lydia was predeceased by her parents, Barbara and Chris Doenz, her sisters Doris, Eileen and their husbands, brothers Ernest, Leo and Irvine and his wife Gene, nephew Darrell Hughson and niece Bev Jessop, as well as cousins Jim, Frank and Hans. Lydia was born October 26, 1914 at the farm home northeast of Warner. Growing up on the farm with brothers and sisters, riding the horse-drawn van and later the motorized school bus into Warner to school created many fond memories. She attended Olds Agricultural School to follow her passion of caring for plants and flowers. Later on, her natural skills of care-giving were valuable skills in her employment at the hospital, and her many volunteer roles at the hospital, Southminster United Church and LSCO. She devoted many years of caring for her parents until their deaths. Her passion for gardening and care-giving continued during her years at Heritage Lodge, and as much as possible at Good Sam’s. Many of the family will continue to enjoy the benefits of her quilting, knitting and crocheting. A Service of Remembrance will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Lois Punton officiating. A private interment will precede the service in Warner. In memory of Lydia, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
