HARRY KARL ROBERT LUNSCHER, beloved husband of Ursula Lunscher of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the age of 91 years. Besides his loving wife of 65 years, less three weeks, he will be remembered by his son Wolfram and wife Cindy of Ottawa, ON, two grandchildren Eugene and Nolan and one nephew Rolf Werner of Bautzen, Germany. He was predeceased by his sister Elfrieda. Harry was an intrepid traveler who fled East Germany in the late 40’s with his new bride, to briefly settle in Karisruhe on the Rhine River. Ever restless, he moved his family, with an infant son in arms, to Canada in 1951. Settling North of Toronto in the Holland Marsh area near Bradford, he put his rich repair skills to work maintaining the machinery in the agricultural industry of the area - most notably, keeping the big pumps working during the devastating flooding of Hurricane Hazel. Those same skills brought him to Southern Alberta in 1985, eventually settling in Lethbridge in 1998, enjoying retirement surrounded by friends both old and new. Harry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, who was inseparable from his canine companions. He possessed a spirit of adventure and a unique sense of humour that lifted the spirits of all those who knew and loved him. Harry was talented in his never-ending ability to fix and build things; and he was a tireless champion for the access rights of assistance animals.
