Lillian Gibson passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side, at St. Michaels’ Palliative Care on August 10, 2009 at the age of 82 years. Lillian was born on July 7, 1927, in Diamond City, Alberta, to Elena and Adamo Chiste. Lillian grew up on the Chiste family farm until she moved to Lethbridge to begin her career and raise her family.
Lillian was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her four children: Terry (Francis) Briggs, Carol (Terry) Steen, Greg (Lynn) Gibson, and Darin (Terri-Ann Fitz) Gibson. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael (Monique) Briggs, Kelly (Allan) Fernandes, Cameron (Jenn) Steen, Taryn (Nevin) Morrison, Adam Gibson, Carly Gibson, Anthony, Rylan and Carter Gibson; and her great-grandchildren: Katie and Alister Briggs, Jaxon, Eshay and Gabriella Fernandes; Darian, Jayda and Isaac Morrison. Lil is also survived by her sister, Mary Berube, and her brother Bruno (Marie) Chiste, cousins Lino (Irene) Chiste and Mariano (Antonette) Biscaglia and numerous nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by her brother Joseph and her parents Elena and Adamo.
Throughout her life, Lil worked at various places, including: MonroeâEUR(TM)s Pharmacy, Marquis Pharmacy, Royal Trust, and Stubbs Pharmacy. Upon her retirement, Lil enjoyed many years with the Lethbridge Senior Centre. Lil made many lifelong friends at each of these places.
Lil loved her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lil will be remembered by her friends and family for her strength, courage, and her wonderful sense of humor. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital for their care and kindness. Special thanks Dr. A Van Der Poll, Dr. Holland and Dr. Li and the staff of St. Michaels’ Palliative Care Unit.
The family will be holding a “Celebration of Lillian’s Life” on August 26, 2009 at 6:00 P.M. at the GALT MUSEUM, 5th Avenue & Scenic Drive South, Lethbridge, AB. Cremation by Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematorium. A private family interment will occur at a later date.
