MARK LAWSON SANDILANDS died peacefully, at the age of 75 years, on August 20, 2018 at the Coaldale Health Centre in the presence of his wife and partner Leona Jacobs; son Doug Sandilands (Jenn Tackaberry); daughter Alison Sandilands (Richard Quantz); and sister Joan Sandilands. Mark was born in Edmonton, Alberta on April 8, 1943 to Donald and Margaret Sandilands, the second of two children. He attended the University of Alberta (Edmonton) where he completed post-secondary studies in Psychology, culminating in his PhD.

DANIEL SOROCHAN, beloved son of John (deceased) & Jean Sorochan, passed away in Lethbridge on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the age of 58 years. Besides his devoted wife, Lisa, and her daughters, Jenn & Randi Burton, he is survived by his siblings, Glenn (Heather MacDonald-Sorochan), Don (Dilene), Dale, Myra, Jannette & James, all of Lethbridge and area. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Margot (Steve Smith) and brother-in-law, Michael (Cheryl), both of Toronto, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Vancouver, Cortes Island, Okotoks and Lethbridge.

Stanko, Rose

Rose Stanko (the Steak Lady) passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at St. Therese Villa in Lethbridge, 16 days before her 90th birthday. Mom was born in Raca, Czechoslovakia on November 13, 1928 to Paul and Agnes Trncik. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1938 and settled in Onoway, Alberta where they began to farm. Life was very tough for them, clearing the land and enduring the harsh winters.

JOHN SKIBA, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. He was a strong and vibrant 86 years old. John is survived by his wife Jacqueline Skiba and sons Fred (Louise) Pearson, Wes (Ledean) Skiba and Randy (Lizanne) Skiba. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Katina, Loren, Coral, Paige, Reed, Sarika and Torryn and one great-grandchild, Aiden. John's parents, Janos and Maria, had eight children with John being the youngest.

BRENDA LOUISE SIMMONS, NEE FEIST, passed away peacefully in Raymond on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the age of 66 years. Brenda was born November 11, 1951 and was the chosen daughter of Millie & John Feist. Brenda was predeceased by her parents, John & Millie Feist, her brother, Harold (Marion) Vornbrock, two nephews, Leslie Jr. and Keith, sons of Leslie and Marion Vornbrock. Left to share memories of Brenda are two brothers, Leslie (Marion) Vornbrock and Rick Feist of Milk River and sister-in-law, Marion (Harold - deceased) Vornbrock of Taber and good friend, Joanne Rolfe.

It is with heavy hearts that our families announce the passing of our dear mother, GERTRUDE STETAR (née Hofman), who passed away at St. Michael's Health Centre - Palliative Care Unit on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the age of 87 years. Gertie was born in Monarch, Alberta on October 28, 1930 and grew up on the family farm north of Monarch. She married Stephen Stetar on July 13, 1950 and lived her whole life in the Monarch-Nobleford area until she moved to Black Rock Terrace in Lethbridge in 2016.

Besides his loving wife of 30 years, Denise North Peigan/Scharf, Gord is survived by his two beautiful children Joey (Kirsten) North Peigan and Chelcia North Peigan as well as his five grandchildren: Chloe North Peigan, Winter Big Bull, Ryder Horn, Kessler Shade and Stryder Big Bull. His First Grand daughter (Chloe) was his best friend.

Vern is lovingly remembered by his five children, Lloyd (Tricia) of St. George, UT, Sandy of Somers, MT, Brian (Judy) of Overton, NV, Janice (Gord) of Pincher Creek, AB and Louise (Karl) of Creston, BC as well as 22 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Ron leaves behind his son, David (April) and children, Ronald, Bryan (Kelsey), Lauren (Andrew), Keith & Jordan; daughter, Joan (Bruce) Brownell and children, Jenna (Matt) Waters, Kimberly (Carl) Hansen, Michael (Heather) Brownell and great-grandchildren, Emily Brownell and Amelia Waters.

Our beloved friend, JAYNE CORINNE SNIDER, died peacefully after a short illness on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge. She was 55 years old. Jayne was born on November 28, 1962 in Camrose, Alberta to Leroy and Anne Corrine Snider. At the age of five, like so many other Albertans with disabilities of her generation, Jayne was admitted to the Michener Centre in Red Deer where she resided for the rest of her childhood and into her young adult years.
