Leslie George Beres
It is with profound sadness that the family of MR. LESLIE BERES announce his passing on April 25th, 2014 at the age of 75 following a very brief, courageous battle with cancer.Born in Lethbridge, AB on July 10th, 1938 to George and Terez Beres, he attended schools in Coaldale and Readymade, AB. On November 17, 1962 he married Shirley Weir and together they farmed in Readymade until 1973. Dad remained in the agriculture sector through employment with Agriculture Canada at the Lethbridge Research Centre in 1973, retiring in 1996. They continued to reside on the farm until 2002 when they sold their land and moved to Lethbridge. Upon his retirement, he made numerous travel excursions including trips to Alaska, across Canada, and has spent the last 17 summers camping at Lake Koocanusa, BC. An avid fisherman, outdoor enthusiast, and loyal Calgary Flames hockey fan, his sense of humour was second to none.Proud of his Hungarian heritage, Dad was an active member in both the Hungarian Oldtimer's Association and the Hungarian Cultural Society. He was also active in the Norbridge Senior's Centre. Friendships were an important aspect of Dad's life and he established several new ones through these associations, with his neighbours in the Fairmont community where they resided, and during his time at Koocanusa. Many old friendships were maintained when they moved off of the farm, particularly with those friends from the Readymade area. His memory will be treasured forever by his wife Shirley of 51 years, his children, Cheryl, Patti (Paul Nelson), Brian (Suneeta D'Souza), and Theresa; his #1 outstanding grandson, Kiran Beres; nephew Ron (Sharon) Kormos, niece Marie (Bob) Halvorson, brothers-in-law Dave (Carolyn) and Rob (Suzanne) Weir, and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, infant brother Charles, parents-in-law Rex and Viola Weir, brother-in-law Bert Kormos, and sister Maggie Kormos.A Service of Remembrance to celebrate Leslie's life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 - Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Thursday, May 1st, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Allyn Mills officiating. A time of fellowship & refreshments will follow. A private interment will be held prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Dad requested that those interested support the Stars Air Ambulance (STARS, Box 570, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 8M7).

We are neighbours of the BERES family. I was in Nova Scotia at the time of Les' death and Karin was unaware of his death. We send our condolences to the BERES family. Les was a great guy who always had an anecdote or a joke. My mother died the same day as Les in NS so I will always remember the date LES died. I am glad his suffering was not long. May he rest in peace.
Shirley, Cheryl, Patti, Brian, Theresa and family..... We are so sorry to hear about Les. We will miss the Koocanusa drive through visits. It was always a pleasure to catch up with all the stories he had to tell, and to hear about how all the kids were doing. Are thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time......
I was very saddened to learn that Les had passed. I did not have the luxury of knowing him well, but have had the pleasure of attending his home for holiday dinners and enjoyed meeting Les and his family. Les was a very welcoming and kind man, who I know will be missed by all. My sincerest sympathy to Shirley, Patti, Theresa, Cheryl, Brian, Sunneta and Krian. Sincerely, Kathleen Wells.
