LEONARDUS (LEO) GOLSTEYN

LEONARDUS JOHANNES GOLSTEYN, beloved husband of Annie Golsteyn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the age of 87 years.

Besides his loving wife, Annie, Leo is survived by his children: Betty (Jim) Thomas, Lorraine Golsteyn and Roy (Sophie) Golsteyn and by his five grandchildren: Christopher and Katie Thomas, and Quentin, Charlène and Audrey Golsteyn, all of Lethbridge.

He is survived by one sister, Milia Vossen, and one sister-in-law, Triene Golsteyn. He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters, Elizabeth Golsteyn, Cornelia Bougie and Triene Cüppers, and five brothers, Cornelis, Will, Sjang, Harry and Teiy Golsteyn, all of the Netherlands.

He is also survived by Annie’s family, Myrna & Bill Tymensen, Tony & Frank Vande Ligt, Nellie Peppin, Jan & Elaine Vanden Berg, Art Vanden Berg and John & Faye VandenBerg. He is predeceased by Rhea & Frank Beekman, Gert & Theo Klooster, Pete VandenBerg and George Peppin. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Leo was born on October 29, 1925 in Slek-Echt, Netherlands. He was raised on the family farm. As a young man of 27, he immigrated to Canada in May 1953. He spent one year in New Brunswick before moving to Coaldale where he met Annie Vanden Berg and married in 1957. Then he moved to Lethbridge and has lived here ever since. He worked in construction and started his business “Leo’s Drywall” which he operated for over 25 years. Leo was a family man. He loved to go camping and fishing at Beaver Mines Lake and going to Banff, his favorite spot. Leo loved to travel and was always ready to go somewhere - the Coast, the mountains and to Europe. He will be dearly missed.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 - 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 am. with Father Roque Pereira, Celebrant.

Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
