DR. JAMES "JIM" LAURENCE LAYNG, beloved husband of Dora Penner-Layng, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Saturday, December 24th, 2016 at the age of 86 years.

He is the loving father of Jonathan (Coro) of Sechelt, B.C., Simon (Diane) and their children Tyler (Nicole) and Dorran of Lethbridge, Sarah (Russ) and Ryan of Edmonton as well as two great-grandchildren, three stepchildren and four step grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Rachel and son Richard.

Jim was born on a farm in Norfolk, England, the youngest of five children. He had an early interest in Medicine and attended the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin and graduated in 1954. While doing his internship in Ipswich, he met his first wife Rachel and they were married in 1956. Their first child, Jonathan was born in England in 1957. A year later, they moved to Manitoba, where Richard, Simon and Sarah were born. The family moved to Lethbridge in 1970, where Jim started a practice at the Hunt Clinic. He was a family man who loved to golf and give to the community. Unfortunately, Rachel passed away in 2001. In 2005, he met and later married Dora Penner. They enjoyed travelling and cruising together until Jim's health no longer allowed it.

Dora, When I first decided to come back to church you and Jim both took the time to welcome me and were so wonderful and amazing everyweek that I saw you both.
