LAPOINTE ERNEST (ERNIE) WILLIAM October 22, 1936 - March 19, 2011 It is with sadness that we send Ernie on his final journey to walk with the Lord. Ernie passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital surrounded by his family. Ernie is lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years Clara. His children Leonard (Susan), Maurice (Marlene), Bernadette (Bob Stratychuk), Vidette (Richard Reiner), Yvonne and Brice (Margaret). His grandchildren Jessie & Family, Bonny Jean & Family, Jennifer, Stephanie, Nicole (Art), Michael, Aimee, Tyler, Garrison and Danielle. Also left to mourn are his brothers and sisters Marie, Adelaide, Charlie, Winnifred, Victor and Leonard. Along with many other family and friends. Ernie was predeceased by his parents Omer and Emma, brothers George, Wilbrod, Bob, Dave and Paul. Brother-in-law’s Bill, Seymour and Stan.
Ernie was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. He moved to MacDowall, Saskatchewan as a small child. In the mid 1950’s he moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan. There he spent time driving coal trucks and working construction. It is here he met Clara and they married in 1958. They moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in December that year. Ernie began apprenticing as a Bricklayer and his family began to grow. His first five children were born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In 1966 the Journeyman Bricklayer moved his family to Regina, Saskatchewan. His youngest son Brice was born there. In the spring of 1971 Ernie moved the family to Lethbridge, Alberta and started a Masonry Business. Ernie continued to ply his trade until retirement in December 2003. In his spare time Ernie was an avid reader, fisherman and hunter. He was a member of Forrester’s for 50 years and a member of the Knight’s of Columbus for over 35 years. However, his greatest love, pride and joy was time with his family.
A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 - 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 10:00 A.M., with Reverend Tim Boyle, Celebrant. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
