KUZMINSKI, MICHAEL THEODORE

Michael Kuzminski, beloved husband of Kristin Kuzminski (nee Gillis), father of Jacek, and son of Teodor and Janina Kuzminski, passed away in his home in the company of his loving family and friends, on Friday June 10th at 10:30 A.M. Mike is also survived by his sister Helena Vedres-Kuzminski (Mark Long), his brother Theodore Kuzminski (Tina), and his niece Fayla Vedres (Cam Van Rijn). Michael joins his sister, Marie (1956-2009), to rest in eternal peace. Originally from Lethbridge, Mike moved to Vancouver in the early 90’s to pursue his life-long passion as a musician. Inspired by his idol Gene Simmons, Mike picked up his first bass guitar at 14. With his self taught musical ingenuity, Michael started his musical career at the tender age of 17, touring BC & Alberta with his sister Helena. His talent, natural showmanship, charismatic stage presence and musical versatility, brought him fulfillment and musical success with many bands, such as: Heartbeat, Gunshy, Escape, Appaloosa, and Lethbridge’s own Mantis & Peace Dogs. His notoriety as a musician came to fruition when he was chosen as the bassist for Canadian Classic Rock Band ‘Prism’. While on the West Coast, Mike met and courted his self-described ‘Angel’, Kristin. They were married in August 2003 and welcomed their ‘miracle boy’ Jacek in November 2007.
With intentions of planting roots, Mike and his family returned to Lethbridge in August 2009, where he was reunited with life-long friends and family. Unfortunately plans were abruptly brought to a halt with an unexpected cancer diagnosis in the spring of 2011. Having already beaten this disease in his early 20’s, Mike faced this new battle with courage and strength, but ultimately succumbed with swiftness & serenity. In true rock star form, Michael left us too soon.
He was a hero to some, a legend to many, and an inspiration to all. His spirit will live on in his music. His legacy will live on in his son. His memory will live on in our hearts.
“Dear M, May your star shine brightest, so that Jacek may always find you watching down & guiding him.” Love, K Respects and remembrance, with reception to follow, will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME (2800 Mayor Magrath Drive S, Lethbridge), on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 11:00 A.M.
