Andy was born in Wierum, Friesland, Holland on June 23, 1936 as Anne (Awneh) Koopmans. He grew up and had his schooling in Holland. He emigrated to Canada with his parents in 1954 arriving in Picture Butte, AB. He married Barbara DeWeert on May 10, 1968. He was pretty handy and did many things throughout his life; farming, construction, trucking, plant maintenance but he was most proud of his five children and his precious grandchildren who brought much joy and love into his life. Andy was a born again Christian. Jesus was the Lord and Savior of his life. He went to be with his Savior surrounded by the love of his family. Andy really enjoyed reconnecting with his relatives in Holland and made several trips there. One of the great inspirations of his life was a trip he made to Israel in 2004. He loved seeing the places Jesus walked and taught. He especially enjoyed the boat trip on the sea of Galilee and the St Peter fish he had there. Psalm 116 spoke to his heart especially in the last week of his life. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. He will be dearly missed by his children (already named) and his wife.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME - 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, November 5th, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Dick DeWeert officiating.

For the Koopmans family, all of us at St. Patrick Fine Arts School are very sorry to learn of Mr. Koopmans' passing. I had the chance to meet him and Mrs. Koopmans in September, and he showed me kindness, welcome, and quiet grace - such a nice man, clearly proud of his grandchildren who go to our school. While I have not known Jon, Tanya and the kids too long, I can say that Mr. Koopmans helped to raise a strong family, where people come first, and when help is needed in any way, you just do it. His grandchildren Carter, Mylie and Zoe are full of life and energy, and are confident in who they are - a trait that comes from knowing they are loved. Mr. and Mrs. Koopmans, you should be very proud of the family you helped to grow. The kids' grandpa's influence will be with them forever. At St. Patrick Fine Arts, our prayers are with you all, Kathy (School Principal)
Our condolences to Andy's family. We appreciated Andy's quiet consistency, his kindness and willingness to be of service. May God's peace comfort you until you meet him again.
