MARGARET “PEGGY” KIRBY, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2012 at her home in Lethbridge at the age of 89 years. Peggy was born on November 11, 1922 in Cappoquin, Ireland, one of ten children born to Patrick and Kate Kirby. She started working from a young age, and continued to work in both Ireland and London, until she came to Canada in 1958 following her younger brother, Maurice, to Lethbridge where she settled. She enjoyed a long career in the Lab at St. Michael’s Hospital, where she created many lasting friendships until her retirement in 1988. Peggy was a social butterfly who loved travelling around the world, a great game of Bingo, her beloved Ireland, and spending time with her family and friends. Never one to sit idle, she could be found using her spare time volunteering at the Soup Kitchen, knitting touques and scarves to donate in winter, or taking a quick trip to the Mall to look for a good deal. Her family loved her dearly and her generous and giving nature will be missed by all. Peggy is survived by her Sister-in-Law, Pat Kirby, her nieces, Cathi (Glen) Durrell and Maureen (Dave) Hughes, and nephew, Sean (Dawn) Kirby, and their families, along with numerous nieces and nephews in Ireland. She was predeceased by her parents and 9 brothers and sisters. A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 - Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 - 12 Ave. South, Lethbridge on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 11:00 A.M., with Reverend John Kohler, Celebrant. Reception to follow, with a private interment at a later date.
