KERN MRS. KATIE KERN passed away peacefully at the Raymond Health Center on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the age of 81. Katie was the proud mother of three and grandmother of four. Katie is survived by her son Tony Jr. (Teresa) & their children Kyle and Toni Tee Kern of Lethbridge, & her daughter Angie (Trace) and their children Alexa and Karsen Vayro of Magrath. Katie is also survived by her sister Rose Mandl & her children Walter and Rose Marie of Lethbridge and her brother-in-law Joseph Kern and his children Michael (Shannon) Kern & Robert (Tara) Kern. Katie was predeceased by her son Hans John and her husband Tony Sr. Katie was born Katerina Sickel in Batartsch, Romania on the 23 of October 1929. She was raised and educated in Linz, Germany and she married Tony Kern in 1951. Katie and Tony immigrated to Canada in 1954 and settled in Lethbridge before moving to Magrath. Katie thrived when surrounded by family. She loved caring for her children and grandchildren and there were many wonderful memories made from spending time with Katie on the Kern farm. Katie had a giving nature and shared not only her love, but her wonderful cooking and produce from her large garden.
Katie’s generous spirit and kind nature will be missed by all who knew her. Family and friends are invited to the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Magrath Stake Centre, 21 East 1st Avenue South, Magrath, AB for the viewing on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. and then again on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at the Magrath Cemetery.
