KENNETH RONALD GEORGE PAUL GREGUS

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Ronald Gregus on Monday, June 29, 2009, at the age of 60 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Besides his loving wife Karen of 37 years he is survived by his sons Kevin and Kelly Gregus of Lethbridge, sister Melyna Dodge (Taber), Kaye Hoffart (High River), Vicki Goings (Las Vegas) and Barb Wright (Edmonton). Ken is also survived by 12 nephews, 5 nieces and 15 great nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents George and Veronica Gregus and one sister and brother. Ken was born and raised in Taber and attended Central Elementary, St. Mary’s High School and Lethbridge Community College. He graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Education majoring in Physical Education. Ken taught at John Davidson in Coaldale for half a year. He then transferred to Coalhurst High School for 15 years. He spent the next 15 years at Picture Butte High School. Ken taught Social Studies and was highly respected by his students. For 25 years he was a successful girls’ basketball coach and took the Crusader’s of Coalhurst to winning Provincials in 1990. Ken loved cooking, fly fishing, camping and campfires with his family. He took pride in his yard, building fences, arbours and loved to watch the garden grow. Ken was very interested in sports. He played men’s volleyball for the U of L, softball and was captain of the Native Sons (Lethbridge/Taber) and Ebony Hawks Lacrosse team in the early 70’s. Ken coached his sons in baseball in their early years. He supported the boys in Tae Kwan Do, gymnastics, hockey, swimming and advanced baseball. Ken was an active member of the Board of Governors’ for the American Legion Baseball League. Ken was a die hard Chicago Black Hawks fan. He enjoyed going and supporting the Lethbridge Hurricanes. One of Ken’s greatest joys was to be around his family and friends. He will be truly missed. A Celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 1011-4th Ave. S Lethbridge with Reverend Aldeen McKay officiating. We would like to thank Dr. Bahlis and his nurse, Marcia, Dr. Goosh, Dr. Balog and his nurse, Karen, Dr. La Brie of the Tom Baker Clinic of Calgary and Dr. Sommerfeldt of Lethbridge. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the other caregivers who supported Ken in a compassionate and caring way during his illness.
