KENNETH PARKER

MR. KENNETH PARKER of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Marie Parker, passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Kenneth Parker was born on March 19, 1923 in Nottingham, England. He joined HM Royal Marines in December, 1941 at Stonehouse Barracks, Plymouth Division, Plymouth, Devon, England. His service record reads: ‘34th Amphibian Support Regiment, India, Royal Marines Armoured Support Group, D-Day. The Royal Marines special service Singapore and Java.’ He also served laying mines on the West Coast of Ireland. Ken was decorated with the Royal Navy service medal with Bar S.E Asia 1945 to 1946, France and Germany Star Defense Medal 1939 to 1945 and the Victory Medal 1939 to 1945. He also served in Java, Ceylon, Bombay and Madh Island. Ken was discharged from the Royal Marines in Plymouth, Devon, England on May 20, 1946 after serving his country for 5 years. Ken was a member of the Salvation Army and sang in their choir as a young boy, travelling all over England. He was also a member of the Nottingham Opera Club as lead singer for many years in operas such as Verdi’s La Traviata. Ken is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marie in 2003 and his sister Connie in April 2008. A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. with Major Glen Habkirk officiating. Cremation to follow.
