KATHERINE "KAY" KAUFMANN passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Health Centre on February 19, 2021 at the age of 96.
She is survived by her three daughters: Jackie (Jim) Phillips, Helen (Rudy) Gonzales, and Doddi (Van) Matz, their children, Todd and Adam and Shawn and Callie. As well, Katherine is survived by her great-grandchildren: Finn, Priya, Quilla, and Mikin.
Besides her parents, Kay is predeceased by her siblings: Charlie (Joyce) Muirhead and Elizabeth (Ollie) Roa.
Kay grew up in Saskatchewan and graduated from St. Paul's School of Nursing in 1946. She moved to Kelowna in 1959 and enjoyed a career as a maternity nurse. In 2008 she moved to Lethbridge to be in the same city as family.
She was an avid traveler in her retirement. She went on an African safari, traveled across Canada, through Tahiti, Panama, and Costa Rica to name a few.
She loved playing bridge. She had a competitive spirit and ensured the game was played fairly. She did not like to lose and did not let her opponent win. If you could beat her, it was meaningful.
She loved walking and could often be found walking throughout her communities. Her last major walk was to Henderson Lake where she overshot and ended up at the correction centre on the edge of the city.
She liked to knit and crochet. Many of the handmade baby clothes worn by her grandchildren are now used by her great-grandchildren.
Kay will be missed by her family and friends. She left a lasting impression on those she met and was always happy to share a chocolate or a cookie.
There will be no formal Funeral Service to take place, you are encouraged to remember Kay in your own way.

I have many fond memories of Kay when we worked together in Kelowna. Always that dry sense of humor and witty personality. I did keep in touch for many years when she moved to Lethbridge but had lost touch. So glad she lived to such an amazing age and was near to her "girls" who she talked about with such love. Please accept my sincere sympathy in your loss. Wendy Crawford
Kay was a delight to work with as one of our maternity nurses at Kelowna General Hospital. I worked many shifts with Kay and she was always professional and had a great sense of humour. She will be remembered fondly by many of her friends here in Kelowna . My condolences to Kay's Family. Ruth Pasemko
