KANYS, JONAS

MR. JONAS KANYS beloved husband of Mrs. Janina Kanys of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the age of 85 years.

Besides his loving wife Janina, Jonas is survived by his son Arnold (Heather) Kanys of Lethbridge and Heather’s two sons, Jason (Beth) Adams of Calgary and Jonathan (Julie) Lutz of Lethbridge as well as numerous relatives in Lithuania.

Jonas was born in Siesikai, Lithuania on August 26, 1924 to Mykolas and Stefanie Robosevskaite. He had four sisters and one brother. Jonas grew up and was educated in Lithuania. During the Second World War in 1944 he was forced out of his country and ended up working in Germany. In 1945 he went to Italy to work for the US Army. In 1948 he immigrated to Canada where he worked on a farm in Welling, AB until late fall. He then moved to Lethbridge and worked in the construction industry as a finishing carpenter.

In 1951, he married his sweetheart Janina Gepneryte. Then in 1958 Jonas was very happy to announce the birth of his only son Arnold, who he is very proud of. Then in the year 2000 Jonas was very happy to see his son Arnold married to Heather, who he adored.

Jonas worked in Canada for 36 years until his retirement in 1984. During his retirement he spent many hours studying geography which was a real passion of his.

A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. with Deacon Cliff Bogdan officiating.

Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
