JOLAN SZALAI, beloved wife of the late Janos (John) Szalai passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the age of 81 years. She is the loving mother of daughters: Kathy Heinzler of Hungary, Joanne (Les) Mulatz of Lethbridge, Maria (Fern) Gervais of Fort Macleod, Terry (Tom) Clements of Lethbridge, sons: John (Helga) Szalai of Lethbridge, Mickey Szalai of Lethbridge, Alex (Donna) Szalai of Lethbridge, 12 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers and 2 sisters in Hungary, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother (Maria), father Joseph, husband Janos (John) Szalai, son Joseph Szalai and sister Maruska. Jolan was born in Hungary. She married John in 1948 and had 8 children; 4 boys and 4 girls. They immigrated to Canada in May of 1956 to British Columbia, where John contracted lumber. They moved to Alberta in 1961 where John worked on a farm and Jolan was a stay at home mom. She was involved with the Hungarian Club and loved gardening, flowers and her dog. Jolan was very outgoing and sociable, she loved to be around people. A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. with Deacon Cliff Bogdan officiating.
