LELAND “LEE” MERLE JOHNSON, beloved husband of Ruth Johnson, of Lethbridge, passed away suddenly at Chinook Regional Hospital, on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the age of 87 years. His family was everything to him and his great grandchildren were a new joy. He is the loving father of; Sharon (Martin) Alcock of Calgary, Marion (Jim) Rasmussen of Bowden, Heather (Robert) Skakum of Lethbridge. grandfather of Carla (Jason) Giebelhaus of Edmonton, Cristy (Cory) Whalen of High Prairie, Lindsey Skakum of Lethbridge, Michelle Skakum of Lethbridge and great grandfather of Sarah & Bennett Whalen and Jack Giebelhaus. Lee was born on October 17, 1923 in Viscount, SK where his parents homesteaded. He was an avid high school curler and hockey player. In 1943 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Air Frame Mechanic stationed in England and Holland. Upon returning home to Canada, Lee went into his carpentry apprenticeship with Bird Construction, Regina. He married Ruth Skundberg of Regina on January 26, 1949 and moved to Lethbridge where they were happily married for 62 years. Lee worked for Bird Construction and Wesbridge Construction, moving up to the post of Superintendent of Construction. Lee and Ruth were charter members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and were active in their church family. Lee and Ruth were enthusiastic junior hockey season ticket holders. He enjoyed his wood working shop, stamp collecting and upon retirement, gardening. A Funeral Service will be held at LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, 2406 11 Avenue South, on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Kevin Powell officiating.
