JOHN POOLE

JOHN MALCOLM POOLE, beloved husband of Doris Poole, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the age of 83 years. He is the loving father of Philip (Caroline) Poole and their children Katherine, Jack, Francesca and Sam, of Canterbury, UK; Martin (Cristiana) Poole, and children, Oliver, William and Leo, of Montefiascone, Italy; Lynne and Frederick Schwarz and their daughter, Jenna of Indian Harbour, Nova Scotia. He was a fond uncle to Ruth (Gerald) Kereliuk and their children, John-James, Andrew and Ann-Elise. John was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, immigrating to Canada in 1968 with his wife and daughter. He spent most of his career as a ceramic chemist and manager, working for companies such as Wedgewood, H&R Johnson, Maple Leaf Tiles and Sunburst Ceramics. He had a life-long love of soccer, and was Referee-in-Chief for the Lethbridge Soccer Association for several years. He taught Tai Chi to many people in the area and practiced it and Chi Qong faithfully and, in 2001, he was awarded an International Year of the Volunteer Award for his teaching activities. His other passions were creating and solving crosswords and writing poetry, and many of his crosswords and puzzles were published. A Celebration of John’s life will be held at the LETHBRIDGE SENIORS CENTRE, 500-11 Street South, Lethbridge, on Friday, October 31, 2008 from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. His family wishes to thank John’s ‘Angels’ the medical staff of 4C, the Chinook Regional Hospital, and also Dr. Raath and Dr. Wilde for their compassionate care.
