JOHN MOSHURCHAK

With profound sadness we must announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, John Moshurchak, on May 17, 2009 after a sudden illness. He was surrounded by his family and encompassed by their love as he passed over to God’s care. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Daisy, his daughter Kim (Brian) of Edmonton, his son Erle (Sandra) of Calgary, and his 3 precious grandchildren Emma, Ben and Sam. He was pre-deceased by his infant daughter, Mae Marie; and by all of his siblings. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and extended family. He was born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan to Ukrainian immigrant parents and was one of 8 children. He became a teacher and spent his career in southern Alberta, the majority of it as principal at Warner School. After his retirement, he continued his teaching career through LCC in the Distance Learning Program. He finally gave up formal teaching at the age of 72, but would still tutor the occasional student if he was asked. We will remember him with great joy for his joie de vivre, his sense of humour (questionable though it sometimes was!), his unfailing loyalty to friends and family, his strong moral compass, and his great, kind heart(he couldn’t hide it with his gruffness no matter how he tried). His gift was to be able to take any turn of event in stride without the blink of an eye; he would carry on and make the best of any situation. He left a great legacy to his family in the strength of his relationship with Daisy through 50 years of marriage. The welfare of his family was paramount to him; we never questioned his support and he proved it time and again with his actions. The great love he had for his grandchildren shone through every time he saw them; he gave them the benefit of his life-long love of learning and teaching, passed on his work ethic to them every time he raked the leaves or shoveled the walk with their help, and gave them ice cream and chocolate any time he could get away with it. His many friends will miss his free hand with a bottle of Scotch, his prowess at pool and cards, and his many bad jokes. He left us with too many laugh-out-loud memories to count - anyone who knows him well will chuckle if they think of a paint roller, robin-egg blue paint and the fate of an old Buick Skylark. His great faith allowed him to be unafraid to live life to the full and to face death with peace and certainty that his life was just beginning. We hope you will join us to celebrate this good man’s life. Relatives and Friends are invited to Prayer Services at ST. MARTHA’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 355 Columbia Blvd W, Lethbridge, AB on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. A Memorial Mass will be concelebrated at ST. MARTHA’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. James Hagel and Rev. Fernando Genogaling, con-celebrants. Flowers and koden gratefully declined.
