John Joseph Grey

Sadly, we announce the passing of our Father, John Joseph Grey, on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

John was the first child of Frances and William Grey and born in Kursk, Russia on January 14, 1916.

After leaving his early childhood home in Kelme, Lithuania, the family emigrated to Canada in 1926, to join maternal grandparents Elizabeth and Charles Latuk in Stirling, Alberta. He married Donna June Walberg in 1939 and settled in Lethbridge with their four children.

John's main interests were his violin music, hunting, fishing, boating and happy times with the family at Waterton and Kootenay Lakes. He also played with his band The Melody Boys and several times on CJOC radio. Music was his expression of love and joy that he shared with family and friends for many years. In 2012, he recorded his first CD with backup by friend Darrell Shirley, of his favourite violin tunes as his legacy to be enjoyed in the future.

John is survived by three children Sybil (Bernie) Peters, Sandra (Edward) Wood and Bryce (Linda) Grey, seven grandchildren, Robyn Johnston, Joanne (Pasquale) Mautone, Kevin (Peggy) Wood, Drew (Natasha) Peters, Terrelle (Luc) Grey, Liz (Ludo) Grey, and Eden (Leigh) Grey, two sisters, Helen Stakenas of Calgary and Amelia Coupland of Surrey, B.C. and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his lovely wife of 65 years, Donna June Grey in 2004; son John Brian Grey in 2003 and parents Frances & William Grey, brothers Walter and Marvin and sister Madeline "Pat" Finley.

John, a man who lived a long, healthy, independent life is now at peace and resting. Your family will miss you for a long time.
