JOHN GYORKOS

It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, ‘Pops’. JOHN GYORKOS, beloved husband of Doreen, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2008 at the age of 77 years. Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on May 26, 1931, John graduated from St Theresa’s Academy. He worked for Motor Car Supply in Medicine Hat, Lethbridge and Edmonton before returning to Lethbridge in May 1957 to work for Alberta Government Telephones until his retirement in December 1987. John married Doreen Hughes on August 30, 1958 and they were proud to celebrate their 50th Anniversary this past summer. His family meant the world to him. Whether it was at the local rink, school gymnasium, baseball diamond or the soccer pitch, he was always there cheering his children or grandchildren on. He loved to spend time puttering in his garden, taking care of his yard and painting his fence. He always looked forward to weekly coffee at the Legion with his friends from AGT. In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his three daughters and their families: Cheryle and Doug Hanna (Kimberly, Laura and Kevin), Wendy and Mark Weninger (Matthew, Evan and Sarah), and Lynda and Henry Bergen-Henengouwen (Jasmine and Scott). He is also survived by his brothers Steve, Martin and Mike, his sisters Mary and Anne and in-laws Ben, Garth and Charlene and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Annie Gyorkos and his grandson Adam Henry Bergen-Henengouwen. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayer Services at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 917-4th Avenue South, Lethbridge, on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. with Reverend Mr. Cliff Bogdan and Mrs. Pat Bogdan officiating. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 917-4th Avenue South, Lethbridge, on Friday at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Tim Boyle Celebrant. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to CRH Cancer Clinic, Chinook Regional Hospital, 960-19 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 1W5 and Heart & Stroke Foundation, #207, 542 7th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2H1.
