Racz, Jim

October 18, 2024

Date of Service: October 23, 2024

JIMMY RACZ, beloved husband of Linda, of Milk River, passed away peacefully at the Milk River Health Center on Friday, October 18th, 2024 at the age of 85.

He is lovingly remembered by his family: daughter Karen Wolbert and her husband Robert, and his son David Racz and his wife Janice; Karen’s sons, Lane and his wife Larissa, along with their three children Asher, Nova, and Cruz; and Clayton and his wife Janine, along with their children Sawyer and Izzy.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Julia, as well as his father- and mother-in-law, Bud and Dorsy.

Jimmy was born in Lethbridge on January 28, 1939. He worked on the family farm growing up, then at Calgary Power, and served as a rural telephone line repairman for five years. He also helped build rural phone lines in the New Dayton and Foremost areas. While growing up, Jimmy loved his horses, and as a young man, he broke many horses for various people. He and his childhood friend, John Juhausz, rode many miles together on horseback. He always had an affinity with animals.

He and Linda were married in Milk River in 1964, where they lived on a farm until 1996, before moving to their home in Milk River. Jimmy was a slow-pitch pitcher for the 1-17 Aces for a number of years. Jimmy was also an avid hunter, spending many hunting seasons with his friend Gordie Balog until Gordie’s passing. Jimmy’s father-in-law introduced him to golf at Glacier View Golf Course in the summer of 1981, and from that day on, Jimmy never looked back. He bought a set of golf clubs that same day and was a member of the Glacier View Golf Course for 25 years.

Jimmy spent many hours driving our boat for the kids and their friends to water ski or pulling the tube. In 2007, we were fortunate enough to join our grandson Clayton and his mother, Karen, on a school trip. He loved camping and spent many months as a snowbird in Yuma, Arizona, where he shared so many good times with long-time friends John and Lorraine Dobrocane, and Dave and Ruth Robertson. We also made many friends in Yuma and camp with our “Yuma Group” twice a year in Devon, Alberta.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 301 Main Street NW, Milk River, AB, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Pawel Andrasz O.M.I. celebrating.
