He is the loving father of two daughters, Barbara (Malcolm) Charlish, of Camberley, Surrey, UK; and Wendy (John) Bushell, of Lethbridge, AB; four grandsons, Iain (Lindsay) Bushell of Sherwood Park, AB; Ross (Cindy) Bushell, of Hong Kong; Michael Charlish, of Camberley, Surrey, UK; and Robert (Anji) Charlish, of Wakefield, Yorkshire, UK; two great-grandsons, Xander and Liam Charlish of Wakefield, Yorkshire, UK. James is also survived by two brothers, John and Alistair McKinlay of Glasgow, Scotland, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Betty, his sister Betty, and his brothers Tom and Billy. Jim was born November 26th, 1926 in Glasgow, Scotland, the eldest of 6 children. Due to the ill health of his father, he left school and began work at the age of 14. When war broke out he enlisted in the Royal Air Force as an aircraft engine fitter, remaining in the military for 35 years. In 1944, he met and married his wife Betty and together they raised their two daughters. Following the death of his wife, Jim came to Canada in October, 2000, to live with his youngest daughter, adapting to his new home and friends very quickly. Until his health began to fail, he was an active member of the LSCO Carpet Bowling Team, participating in the Alberta Seniors games on more than one occasion. Jim enjoyed the love and fellowship of his Church family, especially the men in the Thursday morning coffee group, and will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Bernadette Pahulje, the staff of the Chinook Regional Hospital, the Lethbridge EMS and staff of Columbia Assisted Living for the care and attention shown to Jim over the last few years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the First Baptist Church, 1614-5 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB; or to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, 960-19 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 1W5. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 1614-5th Avenue South, Lethbridge, on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 4:00 P.M. with Dr. Bruce Martin officiating.
