Janet was born in the family home in Saskatchewan, later moving with her family to the Longview area of Alberta. It was there that she met, and soon married, the love of her life, Dewayne. They were young, but their devotion to one another was unwavering. Together they built a life grounded in love, partnership, and simple joys. While Dewayne dedicated his career to the Alberta Wheat Pool, Janet poured her heart into raising their family and creating a warm, welcoming home.
Janet was a kind, caring homemaker whose door was always open. Family, friends, and neighbors knew they were welcome at her table, where she shared not only her wonderful cooking but also her kindness and easy laughter. Her home was a place of comfort, hospitality, and love.
She gave generously to her community, helping prepare food for local events over the years. Janet embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm — enjoying puzzles, video games, cards, sewing, quilting, camping, fishing, gardening, and even keeping up with technology and social media. She found joy in both the quiet moments and the lively ones, and she shared that joy freely.
Janet will be deeply missed by her children: Joellen Whillans, Dennis Whillans (Sheryl), Tammy Anderson (Brian Hood), and Stewart Whillans (Paula), as well as her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Scriba and Helen Rose.
She was predeceased by her husband Dewayne, her brother Andrew “Ed” Janzen, and her parents. Janet leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and family — a legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
