The LORD will accomplish what concerns me: Thy loving kindness, O LORD is everlasting. Do not forsake the work of Thy hands. Ps 138:8 Janet Halma, beloved wife of the late Jacob Halma, passed away peacefully Friday, April 17, 2009 at the age of 94 years. Janet is survived by her children Hinke (Henry) Rop, Harry (Barbara), Bill (Dorothy), Sid (Geri), Flo (Gerry) Sytsma, Thea (Rich) Seibel, Gwenne (Larry) Bell, Alice (Hessel) Kielstra, John (Louise), Jerry, Clarence (Rita), and Annette (Terry) Rauschenberger. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 46 great grand children. Janet was predeceased by an infant daughter Elizabeth in 1957, and her husband Jacob in 1979. Janet was born as Jeltje Beerda on December 5, 1914, in Friesland, the Netherlands. She married Jacob in 1938. Ten children were born of their marriage in the Netherlands. In 1954, the family came to the Taber area where 3 more children, including one who was stillborn, were added to the family. The Halmas settled at Cranford. Together, Jacob, Janet and their children built a successful market garden business, which continues today. After Jacob passed away, son Harry and his family took over the market garden and Janet moved to Lethbridge, where she lived until her passing. For Janet, life revolved around her family and church. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church. Mom loved to read and knit, which she continued well into her 90’s. She was dedicated to her family, and will be deeply missed. She was and is an inspiration to us all. An opportunity to offer condolences will be held Monday, April 20 at 7:00 pm at FIRST CHRISTIAN REFORM CHURCH, 1402-8 Avenue North, Lethbridge. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 21 at 1.:00 pm at MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 260 McGill Blvd West, with Rev. Cameron Fraser officiating. A private graveside service at Mountainview Cemetery, with Rev Andrew Joosse officiating, will be held prior to the service. Sincere thanks to Dr Steed and the wonderful staff at the west wing, Raymond Hospital for the kind, professional and loving care that Janet received during her time there.
